MCP Content Publisher Search: Serving Subscribers and Agents, Securely
Content publishers built their businesses around a simple model: creators produce content, subscribers search for it. That model still works — but subscriber behavior is changing. Many now rely on AI agents to do their searching for them, and agents don’t interact with a search box the way people do. That shift is what’s driving MCP content publisher search — giving both subscribers and agents a way to reach the same content.
In this video, I look at how content publishers can meet subscribers through both channels — a traditional search experience and an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server built for AI agents — without standing up two separate, hard-to-maintain systems.
Using the same content publishing use case from my previous video, I look at what happens when a publisher tries to serve agents in addition to subscribers. Adding a second channel on its own creates new problems: security across both surfaces, resilience, and keeping content in sync between them. Handled separately, this becomes its own maintenance burden — one most publishers didn’t sign up for when their business is content, not infrastructure. It also means duplicating access rules and permissions across two systems instead of managing them once.
Discovery removes that tradeoff. It’s how MCP content publisher search works in practice: one platform exposing the same content through search and through MCP, so subscribers and agents can both reach it securely, without duplicating the underlying work or the business logic behind it.
